Who We Are

BRIEF HISTORY

For over three decades, ASMAN (Association of St. Mary’s Alumnae Nepal) has championed the empowerment of marginalized Nepalese women and girls. Through our dedicated Scholarship Programme, we support Mary Ward schools in Lubhu and Jhamsikhel, alongside other underserved community schools, providing quality education to girls facing significant socio-economic barriers.

Driven by our “Each One Teach One” philosophy, we believe that every individual contribution can create change, fostering a brighter future for these girls and enabling them to break cycles of disadvantage and nurture their potential in a supportive environment. Annually, we solicit donations to procure vital educational materials, such as uniforms, stationery, and books, thereby equipping girl students with the resources necessary for successful academic engagement and future development.

Formation of ASMAN

A public notice inviting all former students of St. Mary’s School to attend a gathering for the formation of an alumnae association was published in The Rising Nepal on August 6, 1990.

The response was overwhelming. On August 26, 1990, hundreds of former students gathered at St. Mary’s Hall, rekindling old friendships and celebrating their shared connection to the school. Representatives from graduating classes between 1961 and 1990 were selected during the event.

On September 9, 1990, these representatives met and formed an Ad Hoc Working Committee, officially laying the foundation for what would become the Association of St. Mary’s Alumnae Nepal (ASMAN).

Today, ASMAN continues to uphold its founding values by empowering communities, supporting those in need, and strengthening the bond among St. Mary’s alumnae across Nepal and beyond.
